The second day of racing kept the crews busy thanks to ideal bora wind conditions with some gusts up to 18 knots.
The start in front of Pula’s Arena quickly brought the five impressive maxis to the exit of Pula Bay, circumnavigate the island of Jeremiah and then head to the stick course with two buoys positioned in front of Verudela, one of which was specially placed under the Grand Brioni to give hotel guests a unique spectacle of professional sailors’ crossings and maneuvers.
Victory in the second race was again won by Dusan Puh at the helm of Adriatic Europa, although in the last part of the course the Slovenian team had to battle in match racing with Jure Orel’s fierce CleanSport One, just before the finish in front of the ACI Marina in Pula.
The third and final day included the most challenging test for the crews with a route of more than 45 miles from Pula to Rijeka as an approach stage for the next Fiumanka scheduled for Sunday, June 11. Due to the weak wind at the start and the absence in Kvarner led the organization to decide on a reduction of the course.
Victory in the third regatta was taken home this time by Jure Orel’s CleanSport One, which got the better of Adriatic Europa.
The final ranking of Prosecco Doc Maxi On Cooking Star in Grand Brioni 2023 sees Adriatic Europa in first place overall, second CleanSport One, third place for Anemos II (first cruise category), followed in order by Fanatic and E_Vai.
“I am delighted with these three days of high-level sports and cuisine, enhanced by the charm of the Istrian coast,” says organizer Claudio Demartis – Sailing and cooking are two elements that have always been a part of my life, both work-wise and passion-wise; I have always believed, they were the winning ingredients to make an international and prestigious event like this one, which I can be satisfied with. I would like to thank the entire organization, the staff, all sponsors and partners, the crews and owners who competed with transportation and professionalism even handing over the helm to the chefs for the first regatta and giving them maximum support. Unfortunately, on the last day the wind went completely out in Kvarner, a condition that forced us to shorten the route. The crews however gave us a good sporting show. I congratulate Slovenian Dusan Puh on a well-deserved victory with his Adriatic Europa team. In the coming days we will immediately start work on the 2024 edition with all partners and sponsors whom I thank again.”
